Ain’t no time for life on stand by
Once it’s past you can’t retrieve it
I’m still tuning into channels
Stuck in static
Picking up pieces
Stepped out of the deleted scenes
I’d put myself into the outtakes
So I can’t see myself in the pictures that they make
I started to feel safe here
But now the walls are closing in again
Had some time to search the scene
But they caught me in the freeze frame
Tried to change the reels
My lines got stuck in the recording
Now I let them make their own minds up about rewinding or fast-forwarding
Feel like they missed the curtain call
And only some caught the first act
If an act was all it was up on stage
Not about to turn back
Pause for thought
Cut
Final act, now that’s a rap
Turn this short play into a life say
Readjusted changed the format
Where’s my heads at
When I move too slow
This needle grates against my skin
Change the pitch, made incisions
An open wound’s where I begin
Let it all out
Let it sink in
There’s enough ink in the pen
But paper and patience are wearing thin
Breath carried on the wind
Into the red sky of sunset
To help the moon rise
It’s not over mustn’t run yet
Nothings set in stone
I’ve seen it all break down
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Create another wall of sound
Feet placed firmly on the ground
In breath help to keep the balance
Out breath lets out the mist stuck in cold days with a fiery talent
Melting wax licked by the flame
That would never let me in
I push myself onto the point
An open wound’s where I begin
Let it all out
Let it sink in
There’s enough ink in the pen
But paper and patience are wearing thin
Breath carried on the wind
Into the red sky of sunset
To help the moon rise
It’s not over mustn’t run yet
Turn the page on a new script
The words from behind a bit lip
Made their escape into the system
When teeth let the tongue slip
Back to back
Eyes where I’m going
Not losing sight of where I’ve been
No one followed in these footsteps
So I dove into the stream
It took my breath away
When I sipped the moonshine
On the surface
Kept a face like everything was fine
But on the riverbeds where the dirt sits
Undercurrents pulled at purpose
Disbursed my doubts and learnt to float
Never letting go completely
That’s when her waters broke
Dam busted, floodgates open
Letting out the last breath
Left me with a sinking feeling in my stomach
And a tightness in my chest
Yes
When the moon sets
I’ll sing the morning song
She still owns the watermarked heart
That she pulls the heart strings on
Not as strong as I hoped
Not as weak as I thought
You’ll find me there sat on the bank
Dropping a line or two and see what’s caught
Put it back if it’s not ready
These things need time to grow
If I’m not there when you need me
Just follow the water trail to the shore
Let it all out
Let it sink in
There’s enough ink in the pen
But paper and patience are wearing thin
Breath carried on the wind
Into the red sky of sunset
To help the moon rise
It’s not over mustn’t run yet
